SolarDry: Off Grid Crop Drying for Smallholder Farmers

Post harvest loss remains one of the largest hidden costs facing smallholder farmers across East Africa. Without reliable drying and storage, a meaningful share of every harvest spoils before it ever reaches market. SolarDry is a low cost, solar powered drying unit designed and assembled locally in Kenya. It requires no grid connection, uses a simple thermal design that any farmer can maintain, and pays for itself within a single growing season through reduced spoilage. Since the first pilot units were deployed, farmers in the programme have reported meaningfully lower post harvest losses and more consistent income across the season.
